Our illustrated puzzles are drawn rather than photographed, which changes how they get built. You are not matching gradients, you are following a coastline, a railway line, a row of rooftops. Half the pieces identify themselves by a single drawn object: a whale, a cathedral spire, a hot air balloon over a county.
The round world map breaks the habit of rectangular jigsaws entirely. It finishes as a circle 26.5 inches across, which means the border goes in as one continuous curve and the usual edge first strategy stops working. People either love this immediately or complain about it for twenty minutes and then love it.
Every illustrated puzzle in the range is cut from 100 percent recycled board in three layers, so pieces click rather than slide and the finished sheet can be lifted from one end. A pull out image lives inside each box for the people who want to check a corner without hunting for the lid.
